The Cardiff castle that dates back to more than 2000 years is situated in the heart of the city. The castle apartments designed by William Burges in the 19 century contain some elegant ad masterfully created ornate fireplaces, gilded ceilings, intricate stained glass and carved animals.
The interior gives a spectacle of a fairytale house. The Castle Coch, set in an enchanting woodland gives the impression of another fairytale castle and is situated in Cardiff. You will also find the Millennium Stadium, an iconic venue in the city that will contribute to the 2012 Olympics.
The National Museum of Cardiff is a treasure house for Wales’s art, history, archaeology and collections that span over centuries. Want to see how the finest malt whiskies are made? Visit one of the smallest distilleries of the world and the only distillery in Wales, the Beacons mountain range with spectacular sceneries all around. They produce only one cask per day and known to the world as some of the best malt whiskies.
The once working coalmine, Big Pit provides you with underground tours into the mine. This is a great place to learn about coal mining and its history. The Cosmeston Medieval Village that belonged to the 1300s, an unstable period in the British and Welsh history was discovered and excavated in the 1980’s. It is reconstructed and brought back to life as it was during its original period. This is a great opportunity for you to get the feel of the medieval times and its ways of life.
Cardiff bay is another very important place to explore. You can cruise or sail, enjoy a tasty meal at one of the many restaurants and even witness the International Food and Drink Festival and Cardiff Harbour Festival.
